Brittany Murphy Calls 911

Maybe she got spooked by all the wind in LA yesterday, or maybe she's pill pals with Paula Abdul, but either way, Brittany Murphy called the LAPD to her house last night about gunshots when there were no gunshots.

TMZ has learned cops received a frantic 911 call around 2:30 this morning from neighbors complaining about a screaming Brittany Murphy, who was wailing about shots fired outside her Hollywood pad.

When LAPD arrived on the scene, they saw the panicked actress on her balcony, yelling about the alleged gun fire.

No weapon, bullet or body was found -- and after an investigation, the noise was discovered to be coming from a generator, which had been acting up due to the funky L.A. weather last night.

Ok. So I'm totally picturing her publicist sitting at home calling Brittany telling her "ok, call 911 and make some story up. The police will come to your house. Nothing bad will happen and nothing bad can reflect on you, because you didn't actually do anything. But all the tabloids will report on it. It's like a 2-for-1 deal, free press, no harm and people know you're still alive."
