DJ AM and Travis Barker Expected to Recover within a Year

The medical director of the Georgia burn center where the two are being treated after their escape from a fiery plane crash around midnight Friday said Sunday morning that both critically injured men are expected to make full recoveries. Dr. Fred Mullins of the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors' Hospital in Augusta said at a press conference that Travis Barker, 32, and DJ Am, 35, are being treated for second- and third-degree burns. Mullins says recovery from such burns can take as long as a year but says that the men suffered no other injuries, adding:

"Since both Barker and Goldstein are in overall good health and didn't suffer from any other crash-related complications, a full recovery is expected." As for a timeline, though he said recovery could require a year, Mullins also noted, "I would expect it would be much sooner than that." Regarding their emotional state, he declined to discuss specifics, but said of burn victims that "45 percent of all patients have some emotional trouble."

Mullins says Barker was burned on his torso and lower body, while DJ AM, was burned on his arms and a portion of his head. The doctor described both as remaining in critical but stable condition and in the intensive-care unit of the hospital.

Travis Barker and DJ AM: Survive After Deadly Plane Crash

    barker-dj-am-crash-2_290.jpg

A doctor has announced that Travis Barker and DJ AM are expected to have a full recovery after yesterday's horrific plane crash.

Barker and Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein were severely burned yesterday when their Learjet crashed before takeoff from a Columbia, South Carolina airport. The crash killed four people, including Barker's assistant Chris Baker.

Dr. Fred Mullins, medical director of the Joseph M. Still Burn Center, said both Travis and Adam suffered second and third-degree burns. Mullins said Barker's torso and Adam's hands and part of his head were burned. Mullins would not say the percentage of their bodies that were burned or whether they were conscious. He also did not go into detail about the type of treatment they are currently receiving. He said the two did not sustain any other injuries from the crash.

“I think these patients are going to make a full recovery,” Mullins said. He added, “Anybody who can survive a plane crash is very lucky.”
