Britney Spears is being tipped for a regular spot on sitcom How I Met Your Mother, by one of its stars Alyson Hannigan Rumours have circulated the show’s bosses are considering Spears’ for a permanent turn on the show after ratings soared when she returned for a second stint, playing ditzy receptionist Abby on Monday evening’s episode.

Hannigan, who worked with Spears on set, is keen for her to come back full time.

She says, “She’s fantastic and just a really, really sweet girl.”

And the actress describes the media circus surrounding Spears’ presence: “Well the first episode was a big hoopla. A helicopter followed her into work and people were taking pictures of her off the parking structure. It was pretty crazy. But the second time they moved her trailer to a more isolated location and the paparazzi sort of left her alone I guess. Is the top of her head is it really that interesting?”

Friends and family received cryptic Evites telling them to book hotel rooms in the L.A. area, and that they’ll be picked up by private cars. One warning: Cell phones and cameras are strictly forbidden.

Apparently Simpson has chosen a Vera Wang gown, while Wentz and his groomsmen will don Dolce & Gabbana tuxes.

Meanwhile, Ashlee’s big sis, Jessica, is said to be hosting a rehearsal dinner at her house Friday night. While this might seem like another Hollywood romance unlikely to last, a pal of the couple says their co-dependence will stand the test of time. “Ashlee is so needy - she just hangs all over Pete,” says our mole. “But he loves it. He’s always had a thing for vulnerable girls. In a weird way, they complete each other. I can’t imagine one would ever leave the other.”

Jessica Simpson: you’ve got competition! New photos have surfaced on Perezhilton.com that show her beau Tony Romo getting cozy with a tan blonde at Chicago club Manor over the weekend.

Perez reports that “five to six girls from Hooters” — including the woman he’s seen whispering into the ear of — partied with Romo, 28, and his pals.

The night Romo partied in Chicago, Simpson was drinking away her sorrows at the same time ex John Mayer’s public debut with Jennifer Aniston. As Mayer and Aniston hit her Marley & Me wrap party in Miami, the 27-year-old Simpson went on a four-hour drinking spree with pals at L.A.’s Mexicali Cocina Cantina.

Simpson was so out of it that she had to ditch her Range Rover in the parking lot and call her mom for a ride home. A rep for Simpson told Us Weekly, the singer is “very happy with Tony…they are both happy together.”

With her reality show Denise Richards: It’s Complicated set to bow May 26, Denise Richards is clearing the air about what really happened between her and Richie Sambora when he was married to Heather Locklear.

Calling into Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM show to promote it, (Seacrest is producing her show), Richards, 37, said she remained friends with Sambora after her friendship with his then-wife Locklear had dissolved.

A relationship blossomed with the musician after Richards and Sambora simultaneously went through “awful” divorces and cared for ill parents.

At the time, said Richards, she “followed my heart,” but asserted that nothing happened while he was a taken man. “I did not interfere with their marriage,” she said. She and Sambora remain friends.

A spin-off of the hit ’90s drama Beverly Hills, 90210 joins returning series Gossip Girl and America’s Next Top Model on The CW’s 2008-2009 schedule, which focuses on the female 18-to-34 demo.

Dawn Ostroff, the president of entertainment for The CW, presented the lineup yesterday in the Tent at Lincoln Center. “With shows that everyone is talking about, from Gossip Girl and America’s Next Top Model to our upcoming 90210, our new lineup has the best Monday-Friday schedule flow we have ever had at The CW,” she said. “We are zeroed in on our target demo of young women 18-34 with both new and returning series, and each programming block provides a strong promotional platform for the following night. We’re confident that the quality of our shows for the fall season will make The CW the destination for young women.”

Tuesday’s prime-time schedule will feature two new series, with the premiere of 90210 at 8 p.m.—with Lori Loughlin (Summerland) and Jessica Walter (Arrested Development) cast alongside guest star Jennie Garth, who played Kelly Taylor in the original series—and Surviving the Filthy Rich—based on the bestselling book Hot to Teach Filthy Rich Girls by Zoe Dean—at 9 p.m.

Sean Penn lit up and led a minor revolt at the Cannes film festival against France’s draconian new anti-smoking laws. Penn, the head of the jury that will pick the best films, pulled out a cigarette and puffed on it at a press conference with fellow jury members, in defiance of laws in place since January that ban smoking in public enclosed spaces.

He only took a couple of drags before putting it aside and getting back to answering reporters’ questions. But jury member Marjane Satrapi, an Iranian director clearly inspired by her colleague’s defiance, then asked to much laughter if anyone minded if she smoked “for medical reasons.”

She then lit a cigarette, with Penn and French actress Jeanne Balibar quickly following suit.

The thing is, with three of my good friends living in L.A., we can only have two NYC guys come at a time. Five guys is the limit! You can’t fit more than five in one car, and you can’t roll in anywhere with more than five guys holding your hand. It’s just not happening. So how do you tell the other guys in New York that you are taking a trip out west and they can’t come without having to deal with any BS from them?

Spencer: You tell them that no hot club in L.A. is going to let two dudes in—let alone four or five—so you need to rotate trips to L.A. unless you don’t mind partying at the non-exclusive clubs. Or tell them that they need to come with cash to offer the promoter or door person. If I was bouncing the door at a hot spot, five dudes would cost at least $500 dollars. So if they’re cool with bringing loot, problem solved. With enough money you can roll five dudes deep pretty much anywhere.

While Nicole Richie was home caring for her baby, her fiancé Joel Madden spent a boozy night partying with Lindsay Lohan. Needless to say, Nicole was crushed. The Good Charlotte rocker seemed more interested in a seductive Lindsay than in spinning records.

Nicole was immediately alerted to the situation by her arch-frenemy Paris Hilton, who sent her a devastating text message: Lindsay was all over Joel!

“Their heads were practically touching, and he had his leg over hers,” says one onlooker. “Joel has a flirtatious side, and he definitely wasn’t turning her away.”

Making the situation worse, Nicole frantically tried to call Joel, but he wasn’t answering his phone. “He was so zeroed in on Lindsay, he never heard his cell ring,” a friend of the couple tells Star. “Nicole felt so incredibly helpless and upset that she threw her phone against the wall in a rage.”
